Clacton 1966

Showing a seagull on a blue field this a nice simple badge that works well by breaking the edges of the frame. Made by Reeves this badge is in good condition but sadly the clasp has been squashed.

Clacton 1961

Depicting a deckchair, this a a fairly distressed badge but helps to fill my Clacton run. Produced by Gaunt in London.

Clacton 1956 (Alternative)

As opposed to the excellent hexagonal badge posted HERE this was an alternative design issued in the same (obviously very busy) year. This one shows the Clacton ship in full sail and in this colour variation has pink sails. Try as I might i cannot see what the maker stamp says so I’d be grateful if anyone can shed some light on it.

EDIT: As the colour Variation posted HERE was made by Empire Jewellery Co I am guessing that this must also have been.

Clacton 1956 Colour Variation

Time for a colour variation badge, This is a different version of the previously blogged badge HERE which has pink enamel replacing the white here. Sadly the white is quite discoloured but unless it is very faded is not the pink version. Badge was made by The Empire Jewellery Co.

Clacton 1963

A lamp design on this one. Its in good condition but what makes it stand out is the maker. In this case W J Dingley of Birmingham. A new one in my collection.

Clacton 1957

We are into colour variations now with this little gem being a variation on a badge i already own and i blogged HERE. This one includes an intact pin this time. Made by Jewellery Metal co of Dublin. I varies from the other badge in that the hat and sky colours are changed.

Clacton 1949

Another fiddle to my Clacton bow this badge accompanied a mistaken purchase of a second Clacton 1946 badge. 2 is better then none i suppose. This one has several colour variations but is particularly striking by its design. Made by  Reeves and Co. This is also my first badge from 1949.

Clacton 1946

 

Clacton was obviously the place to bi in 1946, i don't know if there was a cloth shortage in 1946 but that swimsuit is perfectly scandalous.

This badge is intriguing to me as it shows a beachwear that i certainly would not associate with 1946 however a google names it as the year of the modern bikini!

No makers mark on this one.

Clacton 1957

This lovely badge depicts a happy child skipping to the sea and depicts everything that makes the seaside great. It WAS in great condition until Royal Mail got their big trotters on it and managed to snap the pin. Thanks Guys. This one was made by The Jewellery Metal Co of Dublin. It survived 52 years intact.

Clacton 1939 Replica

Now this is how to do it. This 1939 replica is in great condition. Not surprising as it really isnt that old at all. It is collectable, fills a gap in my collection that will cost me a lot for the original version and was excellently described on the auction. Everbody wins and I am sure that the seller got a better price simply by building an honest description. No maker for this and it is stamped replica.

Aesthetically I actually find the badge rather lacking and, demand for the item notwithstanding, I certainly will be reluctant to spend a lot on the real thing. I bet it is expensive though.

Clacton 1964

Another slightly more stylish badge, This one hits the right buttons for me with shape and colour. The angular style is very effective. The maker for this badge was Fattorini and Sons.

Clacton 1956

This one, I think, is rather interesting as a badge. Artistic appeal aside (and it does something for me but I'm not sure what) it is a very interesting and bold attempt to change the style to a more physical rather then visual one. The badge itself is pressed with curves and flourishes and consists of just 2 colours. If they were a little bolder i would love this badge but the orange and yellow is insipid and does nothing to enhance the brave shapsing. It’s a shame really as with a colour variation such as the rich reds and yellows used to such effect on Bognor 1966 it would be wonderful. This one was made by the Jewellery Co of Dublin.

Clacton 1962

This is one of my recent acquisitions and a really nice addition. It is the Clacton 1962 badge showing a lamp obviously the illuminations were big in ‘62. made by Gaunt again this is another one in great condition.

 

Clacton 1965

Here is a good example of how an essentially simple badge can still be eye-catching and very effective. Made by Morton T. Colver for the 1965 holiday season this three colour badge is simple in the extreme but for some reason works in a way Minehead 1967 failed to for me. I nice simple motif.

Clacton 1959

From 1959  this badge is in great condition on the front but does look a tad faded. A change in maker for this one, it is produced by Gaunt of London.

The back of the badge is a little distressed with some bending to the pin housing and tarnish to the rear. Overall a well preserved and slightly different example of the collection.
